Irene Sazer

an original member of the Turtle Island String Quartet founded the Real Vocal String Quartet (,and the Berkeley School of String Improvisation. 

Sazer's strong classical training, her deep experience in a vast array of musical styles, and her talent as an improviser, singer, composer, arranger and educator, make her a unique musical voice in the international community. 

Widely recorded and respected, Sazer's musicality and creativity continues to inspire and unfold.  

After producing Culture Kin,  RealVocalSQ's latest album (premiered at YBCA in 2019) with artists from around the world, Sazer continues her cultural collaborating this spring with American and Brazilian artists in The Berkeley Choro Festival celebrating Women in Brazilian music. Known internationally as a founding member of Turtle Island String Quartet,  Irene Sazer has won acclaim as a soloist, concertmaster, recording artist, and respected educator. Sazer is an in-demand genre-hopping violinist and fiddler. She founded and directs the School of Strings and String Improvisation in Berkeley, CA.  Her recording First Things First, highlights her  voice as an original singer and songwriter. She has worked with  Ali Akbar Khan, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, Frank Sinatra, Smoky Robinson, David Grisman, Linda Rondstadt, Bjork, Maria Marquez, and Billy Joel and has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and concert halls around the world.  She has been awarded a gold record award for Winter Solstice 2 on the  Windham Hill label and a platinum record award for her work with Feist on her Juno award winning album, Metals.
